"Love in the Time of Cholera" by Gabriel Garcia Marquez

She would not go to the funeral, for that is what she had promised her lover, although Dr. Urbino thought he had read just the opposite and the the paragraphs of the latter, she would not shed a tear, she would not waste the rest of her years simmering in the maggot broth of memory, she would not bury her self alive in side these four walls to sew her shroud, as native widows were expected to do. she attended to sell Jeremiah de Saint-Amour's house and all its contents, which, according to the letter, now belonged to her, and she would go on living as she always had, without complaining, in this death trap of the poor where she had been happy. (Marquez 16)" Mood

I think the mood of this passage is very icy resolved and depressing as evidenced by Fermina Daza by her reaction of her husbands death because shes no longer weighted down by him. Also she might be worried about Florentino Ariza pursuing her more now that her husband is gone. Figure of Speech "She will not shed a tear," by this figure of speech it does not sound like she is experiencing typical grief at the death of a spouse. It also sounds like she has no love towards him what so ever. Description and Imagery The author does a great job of describing objects and structures very well "She would not waste the rest of her years simmering in the maggot broth of memory" (Marquez 216),she never had love towards Dr. Urbano and mentions that she will never grieve for him, and she found the relationship with him disgusting. Very powerful feelings towards her husband.
